Urban Resilience and One Health
Strategies for a post-pandemic vision for Cities

September 21-23, 2021

UROH Conference 2021

The Conference aims to activate synergic dialogues among disciplinary research fields and actions domains towards urban visions challenges rooting on resilience and adaptive experiences promoted from academia, experts, third sector and communities.

The One Health conceptual framework and the possible contribution from the One Health approach in the urban resilience capacities enhancement will be the core of the congress dialogues.

The conference wiill be held virtually through an online conference platform of ResilienceLAb.
The initiative is into the OFFICIAL AGENDA of All4Climate,  promoted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition

All questions and info could be e-mailed to uroh.conference@resiliencelab.eu  and resiliencelab@gmail.com

The conference is organized by REsilienceLAB  as action of the  [DIS]seminare Resilienza project  supported by Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lombardia

Registration to the UROH International Conference

The registration to UROH Conference is FREE of FEE, but we only ask to respond to some interactive questions to collect your inputs/ideas through THIS FORM.

in the registration form, we ask all participants to provide a “personal” definition/reframing on Urban Resilience and One Health and suggest one key message explicitly addressed to the targeted stakeholders.

The One Health concept

As defined by One Health Commission, “One Health is an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment“.

As well, in 2015 the Rockefeller Foundation and The Lancet define Planetary Health  referring to “the health of human civilization and the state of the natural systems on which it depends“.

The One Health emphasizes that the health of humans and all living beings are interdependent and bound to the health of the ecosystems in which they live.
The One Health concept fosters a collaborative, multisectoral, and trans-disciplinary approach – working at local, regional, national, and global levels – to achieve optimal health and well-being outcomes recognizing the interconnections between people, animals, plants and their shared environment.

One Health, as well as the Planetary Health concept, are rooted in the profound interdependence of human and natural systems: there is a significant overlap between planetary health and traditional environmental health; both examine the relationship between human health and conditions and exposures originating outside the body, be they extreme temperatures, chemicals and biological agents, vector-borne diseases, or any other potential factors.

Cities find themselves at the interface of many scales of engagement, activity, policy making and intervention when it comes to dealing with the causes, treatment, and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The concept of One Health can be indeed a driving framework to for cities on post-pandemic scenarios.

Particularly  the One Health approach helps to think and design ways to explore the cross-influence between health and environment, by the application of environmental analysis, monitoring and protection.

Call for Abstract Urban Resilience and "One Health".
Strategies for a post-pandemic vision for Cities

“We can only prevent future pandemics with an integrated One Health approach to public health, animal health and the environment we share.”

The REsilienceLAB developed several projects and scientific/academic dialogues on urban resilience, focusing on creative diversity as fundamental property in resilience capacities improvement. The Conference aims to activate dialogues and debate among contributions proposing experiences, researches and conceptual reframing able to investigate the interdependencies among urban resilience and One Health approach to share perspective for renovated urban vision.

The REsilienceLAB launches a
Call for Abstracts for the UROH conference.
The call for abstract is open to collect contributions proposal engaged in the Conference debate and dialogue.

The Conference will explore the different interdependencies and urban vision domains, articulating the dialogues in three main thematic sessions:

Domain 1: interdependence of human and natural systems: exploring research, knowledge and experiences exploring existing interdependence and strategic alliances based on scientific knowledge and good practices. This session includes possible advancements in environmental analysis, monitoring and protection in assuming the concept of OneHealth (particularly concerning data, the One Health approach helps to think and design ways to explore the cross-influence between health and environment).
Researches domains and sub-tracks focuses on :

  • Air Quality in post-pandemic urbanisms
  • COVID-19 and zoonotic disease: vulnerabilities and crises
  • Water and Ecotoxicology,
  • Soil pollution and remediation
  • Nature-based solution and health ecosystem services,
  • Eco Anxiety and Ecopsychology in the urban environment.

Domain 2: Urban ecosystem and One health: exploring the contribution to Human Health and urban resilience from the green infrastructures and renovated approach to urban green approached as core multifunctional infrastructure for our common future. a specific focus will be oriented to the preparedness of urban system for shocks and stress
Researches domains and sub-tracks focuses on :

  • Adaptation and mitigation to climate change at a local level: a health per Planetary Health and One Health
  • Community Resilience and participatory science to face triple crises
  • Resilience and Preparednes
  • Early Warning Systems and Connectity
  • Health Ecosystem Services

Domain 3: One health and urban resilience hybridization: exploring the possible integration among two core approaches. The aim is to highlight the synergies’ perspectives from a conceptual (or theoretical) level, governance domain (policies and tools for plan and urban design), to operational and practical level (intervention, practices acted).
Researches domains and sub-tracks focus:

  • Urban heat waves
  • Energy transition: net zero-emission building and cities for an indoor quality of life
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Biomimicry and Bio-architecture
  • Urban regeneration / design

Interested presenters should submit an abstract of at least 300 words but not exceeding 500 words, in English, by 30 July (postponed)

Scientific Publication “Envisioning resilient cities for a post-pandemic One Health future”A scientific on-line publication (that will be available as open-source) will be published by REsilienceLAB.

Interested author can submit full-papers that can be selected and published after a double-blinded peer review procedure.

The full paper will be published as a chapter in the book “Envisioning resilient cities for a post-pandemic One Health future” and will be subject to double-blinded review.

General guidelines about Full Papers/Chapters: full papers/chapters should have a total length between 12 and 18 A4 pages including images, tables and bibliography. The single A4 page should have an indicative number of 3,000 characters including spaces. It will be preferable if the length of the title of the full paper/chapter should not exceed 70 characters.

The double-blinded peer review procedure will be managed by the editorial board of REsilienceLAB with the support of the advise of the scientific committee of the UROH International Conference and the REsilienceLAB scientific committee.

The paper/chapter  will be submitted by easychair in PDF format, standing the instruction and the provided template
